Aasimar

Aasimar are individuals who are born with or develop a link to the divine, which results in the possession of supernatural abilities.

Characteristics

Aasimar are present across all races, sometimes being born with a distinct connection, and other times appearing when an individual cultivates an special connection to the divine during life. The abilities Aasimar develop, and any accompanying physical changes, vary between individuals, ranging from skin markings to halos to fully-developed wings.

Aasimar also almost universally have or develop the ability to speak a unique language, sometimes referred to as Celestial. Celestial proves impenetrable to learn among non-Aasimar, and does not seem to have a written form.

When an Aasimar's connection to the divine is severed, for one reason or another, their supernatural abilities generally remain, albeit notably weakened or distorted.

Cultural Significance

Aasimar are generally highly revered as champions within their societies. Many will claim a connection to whatever god or gods their culture believes in, though the ocassional Aasimar will make claim to a completely foreign or unknown god or form of divinity, and may be outcast from their society.

Aasimar seem to appear at random across all societies and races in Ittoril.
